Committees

Business Conduct

Committees are essential to the efficient operation of LEMAC. Volunteer committee members help steer LEMAC initiatives in the areas of leadership, education, professional development and networking. They bring their experience and knowledge of the land discipline to the table, offering their time and expertise to help LEMAC reach its goals.

Each committee works within the guidelines of a Terms of Reference document, which is reviewed annually. While some committees – such as the Executive Committee and Finance Committee – are primarily concerned with the governance of the organization, others, such as the Education Development Committee (EDC), Government Relations Committee (gRC), and Awards Committee, are focused on operational matters.

If you would like to volunteer to join one of the LEMAC Committees,
please contact Robert Toth, Executive Director, at office@landenergy.com
or complete the following volunteer form: https://landenergy.ca/volunteer-inquiry-form/

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee’s overall objective is to strengthen LEMAC’s value proposition and increase engagement, retention, and growth within the energy industry by promoting meaningful connections, professional development, and organizational visibility. The committee’s work is organized around three pillars: Engage — deepening connections with current members through onboarding programs, pulse surveys, appreciation campaigns, volunteer pathways, and mentorship support; Promote — raising LEMAC’s profile through member value campaigns, industry partner collaboration, event promotion, and a brand ambassadors program; and Expand — growing membership through targeted recruitment, institutional partnerships with SAIT, NAIT, and university programs, corporate outreach, and re-engagement of legacy members and retirees.

If you are a LEMAC member and would like to join the Membership Committee, please contact: office@landenergy.ca.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

The Government Relations Committee’s mandate is twofold: to promote and enhance LEMAC’s strategic relationships with all levels of government, and to advance the perspectives and priorities of the land profession to government decision-makers. In this context, government includes municipal, regional, provincial, and federal levels, encompassing both elected officials and senior bureaucrats, regulators, and government agencies whose decisions affect the work of land professionals. The committee monitors and researches government announcements, legislation, and policy changes that impact the land profession; develops LEMAC’s positions on relevant funding, regulatory, and policy matters; and coordinates engagement with government representatives.

      TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION COMMITTEE

The Technology and Innovation Committee is mandated to address the evolving challenges and opportunities facing the land profession through the lens of technology, digital transformation, and innovation. The committee monitors emerging tools and trends — including AI, land management software, GIS and mapping platforms, artificial intelligence, automation, electronic document management, blockchain-based contracting, data analytics, and cybersecurity — and assesses their relevance and potential impact on land administration, mineral and surface work, contracts, and acquisitions and divestitures.

The committee’s responsibilities include identifying technology-related issues that affect land professionals, evaluating new and emerging technologies, sharing best practices through demonstrations, lunch and learns, and webinars, and partnering with the Education Development Committees to integrate technology and innovation content into LEMAC’s educational offerings.
